What is the National Electronic Development Assessment Project?

The National Electronic Development Assessment (NeDA) project is operating under the auspices
of the Commonwealth Government's 'AusIndustry' Regulation Reduction Incentive Fund (RRIF) and
is a major initiative of the Cairns City Council, the Local Government Associations
representing 92 Councils from across the country, and the Development Assessment Forum (DAF).

DAF which includes representatives of the professional bodies engaged in the 'development
assessment' process, government agencies and associations.

A key aspect of the 'AusIndustry' managed RRIF funding program is that projects are expected
to clearly demonstrate:

A	Sustainable reductions in compliance costs
B	Improved opportunities for small business, in particular home-based businesses and
C	Results that impact on the wider local government community to encourage widespread
implementation of best practice in the administration of regulation

The NeDA Project in line with the new National electronic Development Assessment (eDA) Standard
(Schema) expects to facilitate opportunities for business process improvement through:

1	Standardising on formats and system interfaces
2	Streamlining the lodgement process
3	Reducing the cost of regulatory compliance

In other cases, offering an improved application tracking capability

Contracts with AusIndutry were completed on 9 May 2006.

Subsequent to an industry briefing and invitation on 31 May 2006, a tender to computer
software suppliers was issued on 20 June 2006.

The tender resulted in 13 suppliers being selected to participate further in the project.

Contracts are now being finalised.

Computer software is expected to be upgraded ready for testing by 'role model' Councils on
or before 30 November 2006.

The serious business of implementation and business process change throughout the further
participating Councils countrywide is then targeted through to the NeDA project deadline of
31 March 2007.
